St. Louis Blues confident of rebound, know they are in dangerous position -NHL Playoffs Update
St. Louis Blues have come to realise the fact that they are indeed in a very dangerous position being down 2-0 in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Semi-Final series against Los Angeles Kings.
Blues struggled to get goals in Game 1 and 2 going up against a goalie like Jonathan Quick, who has been nominated for the Vezina Trophy for a reason, along with a failing defence that gave eight goals to Los Angeles in two contests.
"We've got plenty of things to look at and we just need better play from more guys and more willingness to sacrifice for the good of the team. If we do that, I love our team. We've got tons of character, but if we look for an easy game, you might slide by
some of the teams during the regular season, but this is playoffs against an L.A. Kings team that's playing as good as anyone and as a team, better than anyone right now. We've got battle levels that need to go up for every guy on the team and we need to get
better," Blues’ captain, David Backes, said.
Coming out of playing one of their best seasons in franchise history and nearly winning the Presidents’ Trophy, St. Louis needs to give it their all in the next games if they hope of avoid being eliminated early on without a chance to fight.
Game 3 and 4 will be at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles now, which makes it even more difficult of a position to be in.
Looking at the Blues’ history when they are in such situations, St. Louis has been 1-16 in a series when they lose the first two games and looking at the statistics, everything just seems to be going against them at the moment.
Now having to play the remainder of the series without goalie, Jaroslav Halak, Brian Elliott is also being overworked and could choke even further after he gave up five goals on just 21 shots this past Monday in Game 2.
It will be interesting to see whether St. Louis lives to see a Game 5 at home or are eliminated in a four-game whitewash.
