St. Louis Blues defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in shootout – NHL Recap
The St. Louis Blues beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 at the Scottrade Centre on Monday. The game was important for the Blue Jackets as they needed the two points to keep their hopes of a National Hockey League play-off spot alive, as the Blues were looking
to close down the gap on the teams above them before they could think about the post season.
After an early goal, the Blues were not in the rhythm and it was the Blue Jackets who came up with some brilliant pieces of play and scored three goals. The Blues managed to respond and scored two more goals as the period ended with the scores level on 3-3.
Each team scored another goal in the next period and the scores remained level on 4-4 at the end of the regulation time.
With no goals in over-time, the Blues managed to emerge as winners of the game after the shootout. Andy McDonald of the Blues was named the Star of the Game for scoring two goals.
The Blues made a decent start to the game, which saw them scoring in the second minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Patrik Berglund from a powerful strike. The Blue Jackets also started to create some decent plays and came across several
scoring chances.
The Blue Jackets manage to level the scores with a goal in the seventh minute which was scored by Jakub Voracek from a well placed flick-shot. Matt Calvert scored in the very next minute to put the Blue Jackets in the lead.
The Blue Jackets continued to attack which resulted in doubling their lead with another goal in the 11th minute, which was scored by Fedor Tyutin. The Blues were able to come up with some decent plays, which saw them scoring in the 13th
minute during the power-play through Andy McDonald.
The Blues fought their way back into the game with their third goal in the 14th minute scored by TJ O’Shie from a simple tip-in shot. The period ended with scores level on 3-3 with the Blues making 16 goal attempts, as the Blue Jackets managed

The second period saw the Blues scoring in the 7th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Andy McDonald from a superb wrap around shot.
Both teams continued to attack, but it was the Blues who scored the next goal in the 11th minute through Derek MacKenzie from a brilliant tip-in shot. The period ended with the scores level on 4-4. During the period, the Blues made 9 shots on
goal, as the Blue Jackets managed 13.
The final period did not see much action, as no goals were scored. The Blue Jackets made 4 shots on goal, as the Blues managed 7 goal attempts.
The regulation time ended with scores level on 4-4 and the game went into over-time where no goals were scored. The Blues won the game 5-4 after the shootout.
