St-Louis Blues defensemen Barret Jackman activated from injury reserve
The St-Louis Blues have activated defenceman Barret Jackman from the Injury reserve list. Jackman missed nine games this season after suffering a sprained knee on 4 November in a 2-0 win
over the San Jose Sharks. The Blues are 4-4-1 without Jackman in the line-up. That record includes a five-game losing streak in which the Blues were outscored 29-12.
This news should come as a relief to the Blues organization and its fans. After starting the season with a record of 9-1-2, multiple key players fell to injuries. As a result the team’s
record has fallen to 11-5-3. Even with the return of Jackman, the Blues are still without wingers David Perron (concussion) and T.J.Oshie (ankle). The team will also have to do without defenceman Roman p***k (wrist)
In the 10 games prior to his injury, Jackman had three assists and a +5 rating. Known primarily as a stay at home defenseman, the former first round draft pick averaged 20:07 minutes of
ice time per game. What the Blues and goaltender Jaroslav Halak will be most thankful for is Jackman’s shot blocking ability. At the time of his injury, Jackman lead his team with 29 blocked shots.
A native of Trail, British Columbia, Jackman was drafted by the St-Louis Blues in first round, 17th overall at the 1999 NHL entry draft. Jackman has been a mainstay of the Blues defensive
core since 2002-03. In his rookie year, he posted an impressive three goals and 16 assists for 19 points while seeing 190 minutes in penalties. Jackman was also a +23 that year. At the NHL awards that year, he narrowly beat out Columbus Blue Jackets winger
Rick Nash, and Detroit Red Wings centre Henrik Zetterberg for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the year’s best rookie. Jackman also serves as one of the team’s alternate captains.
