St. Louis Blues dominate New York Islanders with 5-1 win -NHL Update
St. Louis continued their climb in the Western Conference as the Blues dominated and thrashed the New York Islanders, 5-1, on Thursday night, February 16, 2012, at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States.
The Blues have had it easy as they faced a number of weak competitors from the Eastern Division in the past few days and now have won six of their previous eight matchups, which just goes to show the turnaround they have had this 2011-2012 National Hockey
League (NHL) regular season.
"We kept it pretty simple. We scored four goals from just shots and tips," St. Louis’, Alex Pietrangelo, said, who picked up three assists. "Doing what we do best, just putting pucks to the net, getting in front of the goalie, banging and crashing. Every
line contributed. A lot of guys answered the call tonight. It was a good response after the game in Columbus."
Frans Nielsen scored the first and only goal for the New York Islanders, a team that would yearn for another point throughout the contest, while St. Louis answered back with two straight from Jason Arnott and Kevin Shattenkirk.
Andy McDonald picked up his first season goal at the 2:53 mark of the second while David Perron extended the lead to a dominating, 4-1, nearly midway through on his power play goal and T.J. Oshie finalised the game with another at 14:53.
All-Star St. Louis goalie, Brian Elliott, showed superior form once again with his 26 of 27 save performance, earning him the title of being one of the best in the league, something which will definitely benefit the Blues team, which are planning big things
for their first playoff series in multiple seasons.
"Our best player tonight was our goalie. Our goalie was terrific," St. Louis coach, Ken Hitchcock, said of Elliott.
St. Louis will be looking towards continuing this terrific momentum as they host the Minnesota Wild on Saturday while New York Islanders have a lot of ground to cover if they hope on making the playoffs this time around as they host the Carolina Hurricanes
the same day.
