St. Louis Blues dominate struggling Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 -NHL Update
Phoenix Coyotes are struggling to get some wins and St. Louis certainly did not make life easier for them as the Blues dominated the Tuesday night matchup, 4-1, at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States.
The Blues are slowly but gradually climbing the ranks of the Western Conference with their seventh win in the past eight contests at home, along with having won the majority of the home games this 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, putting them at the fifth spot in their division.
Having a healthy team is something St. Louis has really stressed on this season, and now all its players are ready-to-go, reflective of their performances.
"I think any time you're playing those top teams ... Detroit, Chicago, San Jose, Vancouver, you have to have everybody, especially our team", said Jamie Langenbrunner.
"Our team doesn't have a superstar that can carry us and we can just lean on them to score two goals a night. We've got to go by committee. That works well for us. We got away from it a little bit. We weren't playing as five-man units and going one after another and putting pressure on teams. When you don't do that against Detroit, they're going to make you pay for it”.
Chris Stewart kicked off the scoring with his eighth of the season in the opening five minutes of the first period, while Jamie Langenbrunner added the second straight to extend the lead to 2-0, with less than four minutes remaining.
Radim Vrbata finally put Phoenix Coyotes up on the scoreboard, with a power play goal of his own at the 18:49 mark to force an intense second period contest.
T.J. Oshie took advantage of a power play opportunity as Phoenix’s Keith Yandle was booked at the 3:22 mark for holding, and Patrik Berglund finalised the match with a little over 30 seconds to go in the final period of regulation.
St. Louis has two more at home, which is definitely a plus point for them as they will be hosting the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, while Phoenix has the next in Los Angeles the same day.
