St. Louis Blues grab top spot with 5-1 dominating win over Chicago Blackhawks -NHL
St. Louis amazing grabbed the top spot in the Western Conference with their second straight victory, this time as the Blues dominated Chicago Blackhawks, 5-1, Tuesday night, March 6, 2012, at the sold-out Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Blues continued to show their passion for the game by continuing their climb up the Western Conference rankings, now reigning atop, which has definitely surprised many clubs in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Vancouver Canucks were the leading team just a night before but failing to win in their matchup against Dallas Stars, they are now one point behind St. Louis Blues at number two with 90.
Chicago was coming in on a three-game winning streak as they hope coming back amongst the top ranked teams in the league but unfortunately were routed by a determined St. Louis team which now also leads the Central Division.
"For us, we work and we feel like if we work, we're going to win, and when we don't work, we get angry. It's not just coaches mad at players, it's players pushing players, it's everybody pushing each other. We want to be proud of our work ethic. We feel
like if our work ethic is at the top of the heap, we have a chance to beat anybody," said St. Louis Blues coach, Ken Hitchcock.
Blackhawks might not be where they want to be at the moment, but at least they have a playoff spot. Every game might not go in their way but at least, they cannot stop trying.
"Every game is different," coach, Joel Quenneville, said. "Certain guys didn't have that pace on the power play or that intensity that you need. You've got to work harder when you're on the power play, it's not a given."
T.J. Oshie inaugurated the scoring with his 17th of the year followed by Andy McDonald with the second straight on the power play with less than 40 seconds to go.
Vladimir Sobotka added the third on a shorthanded disadvantage for Blues 1:46 into the second.
Andrew Brunette registered the first for Chicago but Andy McDonald’s and Jason Arnott’s goals in the following minutes killed off any chances to comeback for Blackhawks.
Chicago Blackhawks have the next at home against New York Rangers on Friday while St. Louis is set to take on Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
