St. Louis Blues humiliate the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-1 – NHL Recap
The St. Louis Blues embarrassed the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-1 at the Nationwide Arena on Sunday. Both the teams are out of the National Hockey League play-off contention, but they were keen on coming up with a good performance so that they could end the
season with some confidence.
The game started off with the both teams piling up quite a few shots on goal with the Blues scoring early in the period to get into the lead. Both teams continued to fire shots on goal and it was the Blues who scored once again to double the lead. The Blue
Jackets also managed to score a goal to trail by a single goal. The second period was dry in terms of shots on goal, but the Blues scored twice during the second period to further extend their lead. The Blues showed that they were a complete dominating package
who scored two goals in the final period once again and did not allow any goals. In the end, the Blues won the game 6-1 with Patrik Berglund, centre of the Blues, named the Star of the Game as he scored two goals during the game.
Both teams exploded at the start of the game and turned it into an offensive battle. The shots and passing were superb, as the Blues scored the opening goal in the fifth minute through Patrik Berglund to get into the lead.
Both teams had numerous scoring chances during the course of the period, but they could not score. However, the Blues scored once again in the 18th minute through Chris Porter from a superb back-hand shot to double their lead.
The Blue Jackets also scored a goal in the final minute through RJ Umberger to trail 1-2 as the period ended.
The Blues were again stronger at the start of the second period which resulted in them scoring in the third minute through Andy McDonald during the power-play to double their advantage.
The shots kept on being fired on goal until the very end of the period, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The Blues on the other hand were able to score in the final minute through Berglund to extend their advantage.
The period ended with no further goals, with the Blues leading 3-1 as they made nine shots on goal while the Blue Jackets made seven attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Blues dominating the period in terms of offence and defence which resulted in them scoring in the 16th minute through Alexander Steen from a tip-in shot.
The Blues scored once again in the final minute through Carlo Colaiacovo from a powerful strike to seal the game 6-1.
