St. Louis Blues nearing in on captain after lengthy leadership hunt –NHL offseason Update
St. Louis Blues, a struggling Eastern Conference team of the National Hockey League (NHL) made it known to the hockey world on Friday that their franchise was nearing on finding leadership for the players and would soon make the much awaited announcement.
A good captain is crucial for St. Louis, a franchise which is looking to raise the ranks next season after facing another embarrassing team last season. It will take only impartial and dedicated leadership to guide the team to greatness, which could take
time.
St. Louis Blues general manager, Doug Armstrong, expressed his teams status in an interview with a local newspaper.
"We want to get the input of some of the other people in our organization - the coaches, some people in our management staff - and we'll have that decision by the first day of training camp - whether we go with a group of players that will make up a leadership
group or we name a captain", Blues general manager, Doug Armstrong, said."We're further ahead that we were at the end of the season, but we're not at the point where we've solidified what we want to do, and that's something that we'll spend the next three
weeks discussing".
Defenseman, Eric Brewer, was the last captain on the team, which was back in February and is now a part of Tampa Bay Lightning. He was traded to Tampa Bay by St. Louis in February in exchange for an unsigned prospect, Brock Beukeboom, and a 2011 NHL Entry
Draft, third-round draft choice.
Since his induction into the major league by New York Islander as their fifth selection during the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Eric Brewer has had a tough time finding his game after moving from various teams throughout his 11 season career.
Brewer managed to play only 22 games with Tampa Bay Lightning last season after spending six straight seasons with St. Louis.
Alternate captain, David Backes, is expected to take over the position in the upcoming days, especially before the new seasons begins and maybe in before training camp during mid-September.
