St. Louis Blues pumped up for Playoffs following revolutionary season –NHL Update
When St. Louis Blues played that final 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game against Dallas Stars and won on Saturday, April 7, 2012, it was probably time for most of the organisation to check whether they were in reality or had been
dreaming all along.
Blues had a remarkable regular season and after ending the last as one the lowest ranked teams in the league, St. Louis bounced back amazingly and are now entering the 2012 playoffs as the Western Conference’s second seed.
For St. Louis, this will be the real test as the team prepares to go head-to-head against the seventh number team, San Jose Sharks, in round-one of the postseason on their way for the Stanley Cup championship.
Getting 109 points and being the top Western team for a good portion of the regular season, St. Louis achieved to rank second in terms of most wins for the second time in franchise history, giving their new coach, who was appointed earlier in November of
2011, something to be extremely proud of.
"Now it's on to the real season," said St. Louis Blues head coach, Ken Hitchcock. "I think for me, when you win the Jennings [Trophy] and you get 109 points, you've done an awful lot of good things, so for me, I'm really happy for the goalies, but everybody
makes that commitment back for the goalies. The guys were great, the guys were really good.”
"All of us are excited. We're proud. We're really proud of what's going on here. This will be fun. Who knows? This is the new season. Other people step up,” Hitchcock added.
St. Louis could have ended at the top of the West, but due to a few consecutive losses in the final games of the season, Blues dropped down and stood second with just a two point differential.
Whatever the situation for St. Louis is right now, they are happy to get back into the postseason and hope to make a real difference in regards of revolutionising the club into one of the best.
Following the San Jose-St. Louis series will be especially exciting to see how the team has developed from one of the worst to one of the best.
