St. Louis Blues re-sign Barret Jackman to three-year, $9.5 million deal -NHL Update
Having spent his entire career in St. Louis definitely has its benefits as veteran defenseman, Barret Jackman, was signed on to a three-year contract extension by the Blues franchise on Monday, June 18, 2012, worth an estimated $9.5 million by sources as
the financial terms were not officially disclosed.
Being in St. Louis for the past 10 seasons, moving now would only seem irrational for the player, but now with another three years secure in the city, Jackman can focus on only improving himself after an amazing National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
"St. Louis is our home and my family and I are excited to be staying," Jackman said. "I am proud of the progress we made this season but our fans deserve a championship and our team will not be satisfied until we achieve that goal."
St. Louis Blues ended the 2011-2012 NHL regular season as the second seed of the Western Conference, one of their best in franchise history, and were knocked out by Los Angeles Kings in the semi-finals. Despite the earlier than expected ousting, Blues and
fans are definitely proud of the achievements and keeping players like Jackman on the squad only make it better.
"Barret has been a solid leader for our club, on and off the ice, and we're happy to have him in the fold for the next three years," St. Louis’ general manager, Doug Armstrong, said. "He's a staple of the organization and the community and his positive influence
on our young core has and will remain an invaluable asset."
Drafted as the 17th overall back in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, the Trail, British Columbia, Canada native, has played in 598 games up until now and has 139 points (20 goals, 119 assists).
Jackman is currently at number 10 when it comes to games played in the Blues franchise history and continues to excel others in various fields of the sport.
At 31, Barret Jackman is certainly ready to continue working towards a Stanley Cup championship and having him on the team is definitely one way St. Louis Blues can secure it.
