St. Louis Blues regard this year as first step towards greatness -NHL Playoffs Update
St. Louis Blues were one of those few teams this past 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season that actually made a difference in their performance and revolutionised the way they were looked at by fans.
Blues were regarded to be one of the worst teams in 2011 after they ended at one of the lowest points in the Western Conference but now, St. Louis has earned its place as one of the elite clubs.
Finishing off the season with more than 100 points and entering the playoffs as the second seed along with eliminated San Jose Sharks in just five games, St. Louis Blues were one of the definite frontrunners in the race for a Stanley Cup this year.
Unfortunately, the Blues faced some tough competition in the form of Los Angeles Kings and were knocked out in four straight games in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Despite the loss and not being able to contend for the cup, St. Louis Blues are content
with their achievements and regard it to be the first step towards becoming a great team.
"Yeah. A week and a half, two weeks ago, we just beat the San Jose Sharks and had the world in the palm of our hands," winger Chris Stewart said. "It was definitely not the way we saw ourselves going out. Obviously our goal was to win the Stanley Cup, but
we came up short this year.”
"You accomplished a lot, but this time of the year, whether you don't make the playoffs or you lose in the first, second, third or even Stanley Cup Finals, unless you're holding the Stanley Cup and doing the celebrations, you're not satisfied," added defenseman
Barret Jackman.
The major turnover from being one of the worst to becoming one of the best could be regarded as an accomplishment only someone like Ken Hitchcock could do as he joined the team as their head coach earlier in November of 2011.
Ken Hitchcock is now determined to do even better with the upcoming season and more than enough time to work on his team’s weaknesses over the lengthy offseason.
