St. Louis Blues sign veterans Jason Arnott and Jamie Langenbrunner to one-year, $2.5 million deals
St. Louis blues added more depth to their offensive end by signing two veteran attackers on Wednesday, former Washington Capitals' player, Jason Arnott, and Stars' right wing, Jamie Langenbrunner, to a one-year, $2.5 million deal, each, plus bonuses worth
an estimated $300,000.
Full of young players, St. Louis hopes to develop their players by adding a little bit of experience and leadership, which is not a problem for these two.
Jason Arnott’s deal also includes a no-trade clause, but according to St. Louis Blues' general manager, Dour Armstrong, the team management intends on creating a long-time relationship with both newly signed free agents.
"I just think they wanted to make sure they were going into a situation that they thought was best for them, not only this year but both players want to play multiple years", Armstrong said. "If we have success as a team and as a group, I don't see why these
relationships can't continue".
Both Arnott and Langenbrunner did not have a good time this past regular season.
Being traded near the end broke their determination and consistency as Arnott only potted a total of 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) in 62 games with New Jersey Devils and another 11 with Washington Capitals, coming off a 50-plus point average in four consecutive
seasons with Nashville Predators.
Langenbrunner also faced the same problem when he was traded from long-time team New Jersey to Dallas Stars.
He recorded a mere 32 points (9 goals, 23 assists) in 31 games with Devils and 39 with Stars, which was measly compared to his 61 point 2009-2010 season.
St. Louis added Arnott and Langenbrunner not only because they played well together in the 2010-2011 season, but because Blues intend on creating a vast mixture of experience, which could be seen by their previous signings of players like Scott Nichol and
Kent Huskins.
"We feel we've really improved our team since July 1st", Armstrong said about the players he has signed on so far. "I think we're very comfortable with the group that we have".
There is no doubt that St. Louis is now a drastically changed team full of leadership and game know-how, which will be better for them next season.
