St. Louis Blues win 2-1 against the Florida Panthers after trailing early on
The final game of Tuesday was hosted by the Florida Panthers at the Bank Atlantic Centre. The home team was up against the St. Louis Blues with a decent crowd coming to witness the match. This was the 807th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series which had Florida Panthers the expectations to win the match. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen as after falling behind St. Louis Blues scored in the each of the last two periods to win the match 2-1 in the end.
Matt D’Agostini, winger of the St. Louis Blues was named the star selection of the match as he scored the winning goal for his team.
There were almost no shots on goal at the beginning of the game. However, after the first few minutes it was Florida Panthers who took up the task of starting the offensive play. The inaugurating shot made by the Panthers saw numerous shots fired by both
teams as the period moved on.
Florida Panthers successfully took the lead with Dennis Wideman scoring from a brilliant long range powerful strike in the 7th minute. Both teams kept on pilling pressure on the opposing defence but they couldn’t find the back of the net. Though
St. Louis Blues could have easily scoring on several occasions to level the scores but their frontline was poor.
The period ended with Florida Panther leading 1-0. Florida Panthers made 11 goal attempts in the period while St. Louis Blues made 7 goal attempts.
The second period started with the Florida Panthers going on the same roads as they attacked. They came across scoring chances from the start but unfortunately weren’t able to score. St. Louis Blues came out with a change in strategy and it took them some
time to settle.
Once the away team settled, they displayed some excellent ice hockey. They constructed superb pieces of play and made strong goal attempts. With the strong attacks, St. Louis Blues successfully scored through David Backes in the 19th minute to
level the scores.
The period ended with nothing more to discuss as the scores were level on 1-1. During the period, St. Louis Blues made 14 goal attempts while Florida Panthers made 11 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams making a cautious start as they didn’t want the other team to score and fall behind. Though there were the attacks but the defence was kept very tight. Florida Panthers was the team that was a little weak in defence.
As time passed in the period, St. Louis Blues figured out that attacking from the wings would be better. As soon as they did this, the away side immediately scored to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Matt D’Agostini from a well placed flick shot
in the 16th minute.
Florida Panthers tried desperately to level the scores coming up with numerous goal attempts but they couldn’t find the back of the net. The period and the game ended with St. Louis Blues winning 2-1. The final period saw Panthers making 9 goal attempts
while St. Louis Blues made 7 goal attempts.
