St. Louis Blues winless in four games after loss to the Colorado Avalanche
The once rock solid goaltending of the St. Louis Blues was broken down for a fourth consecutive game as they were beaten 6-3 by the Colorado Avalanche on Monday 15 November.
How it happened
It took less than a minute for the visiting Blues to get on the board when Alexander Steen got his fourth of the season. But from there on in it was all Colorado. John-Michael Liles got a pair and Paul
Stastny scored his seventh of the season to put the Avalanche up 3-1 after the first period.
The Blues pulled one back in the second period through Carlo Colaiacovo who notched his second of the season, but the Avalanche then scored two goals in 17 seconds, Brandon Yip with his fifth and David
Jones with his seventh, to put the Avs up 5-2 after 40 minutes.
Once again, the Blues got the first goal of the period when Brad Boyes scored on the power play for his third of the season. But the Avalanche answered with a power play goal of their own through Kevin
Porter.
What they're saying
Colorado skill forward Matt Duchene, more known for his nifty moves and delicate scoring touch, was involved in a scuffle with Vladimir Subotka at 14:39 of the third period drawing a huge roar from the
crowd.
"I haven't been scoring with my hands too much, might as well do something else with them," Duchene told reporters after the game with a laugh.
Liles' two first period goals were good for his first multigoal game since 2006. "I'm just happy to chip in on the score sheet," he said. "When the points happen, they happen. It's kind of just trying
to jump in, use my legs and help the forwards out."
"We weren't going to go 82-0," Steen said regarding his team's recent slump after having an impressive start to the season. "It seems that every time we got one they got one going the other way. This is
a tough one to swallow."
The Blues slide continues as they now find themselves a full two points behind the Detroit Red Wings in the Central Division. The Red Wings happen to be St Louis' next opponent as the two teams will go
head-to-head in Detroit on Wednesday 17 November.
The Avalanche have now rebounded from a loss with a win for the third consecutive time. If the recent trend of win one, lose one, continues they'll have no chance against the San Jose Sharks whom they
meet Wednesday night.
