St. Louis Blues wins 4-3 against Columbus Blues Jackets in a close encounter after an overtime
Another game on Wednesday was Columbus Blue Jackets playing host to St. Louis Blues at the Nationwide Arena.
The game was important for both teams as they are not far behind the pack of teams who are closely contesting for a couple of positions in the playoffs. Considering this, the game was expected to be intense.
This certainly proved to be the case as the first period saw both teams coming up with a decent ice hockey display.
The first period ended with the scores level on 0-0. However, Blues Jackets made a decent start to the second period which saw them scoring early goals. Blues also notched up a goal and in the end it was Blue Jackets leading 3-1 at the end of the period.
Blues managed to come back and score twice in the final period to level the scores.
The game went into overtime where Blues scored once again to win the game 4-3 in the end.
Chris Stewart of Blues was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
Both teams made a smooth start to the game which saw them making shots on goal every now and then. With the passage of time the attacks started to intensify but the defence was able to cope with the pressure.
The goalkeepers also did an excellent job to keep the scores level early on. There were several shot on goal which were fired every now and then and from everywhere on the ice.
However, no goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the period, Blues made 9 shots on goal while Blue Jackets made 11 shots on goal.
The second period saw Blue Jackets exploding as they scored three goals inside the first 10 minutes of the period.
The first goal was scored by Jakub Voracek in the second minute, the second was scored by RJ Umberger from a simple tip-in shot in the fifth minute and the third was scored by Derek McKenzie from a powerful strike in the 9th minute.
Blues managed to bag a goal as well in the 14th minute through Alex Pietrangelo from a well placed flick shot. There were a few more shots but no more goals as the period ended with Blue Jackets leading 3-1.
The final period saw Blues coming up with some decent plays which saw them scoring in the third minute through Ian Cole from a powerful strike and then in the seventh minute through Chris Stewart to level the scores.
There were only five goal attempts made by each team during the period and the period ended with the scores level on 3-3.
The game went into overtime where Blues scored through Chris Stewart once again to win the game 4-3 in the end.
