St. Louis Cardinals, Coco Crisp reported to be in negotiations -MLB Update
The St. Louis Cardinals are believed to be in negotiations with free agent centre fielder, Coco Crisp, according to latest reports unearthed early Tuesday morning, December 20, 2011, which has not been confirmed about either stakeholder due to the sensitivity
of the issue.
By revealing such news openly and officially, Crisp could scare off other teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), minimising the number of opportunities he could explore, which is something Crisp would certainly not want to do in any case.
The sources are a number of top reporters for big name news websites like FOXSports.com and Yahoo! Sports, making the news more reliable than others.
Coco Crisp, a 32-year-old player who was with the Oakland Athletics for the previous 2011 MLB regular season and had spent with them two straight seasons, is now looking for another home team but it is still unclear whether the A’s want him back on the roster
for the upcoming season or not.
The veteran player kicked off his career with the Cleveland Indians, which lasted for four straight seasons followed by another three with Boston Red Sox and a single one with the Kansas City Royals before joining the Oakland Athletics.
Crisp’s agent, Steve Comte, is believed to have told The Post-Dispatch that he will be approaching his client with offers from a number of teams that could be potentially including names like the Boston Red Sox along with the widely suspected St. Louis Cardinals.
Whatever the situation may be for the player, Comte has decided that they will be taking it slow.
"We can be patient with this and let things develop," he said.
Comte also added that discussions between teams are an ongoing process which will continue until a deal is finalised and signed but until then, nothing can really be said about where Coco Crisp will be headed in the upcoming days and who are the frontrunners
in acquiring the player as the offseason progresses and the free agent market dries up.
Crisp played 136 games last season with 531 at-bats, eight home runs with a .264 batting average, making him a valuable player on any team.
