St. Louis Cardinals' Carlos Beltran improving after cortisone injection – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals' right fielder Carlos Beltran on Thursday, August 23, said that he is feeling great now, days after he had to go for cortisone injection for his left hand soreness. The player was previously uncertain if he would be able to continue with the soreness, but the problem appears to have subsided.
The right fielder continues the treatment, avoiding any risk at this stage as the Cardinals try to keep themselves afloat in the National League Central to make headway, trying to pave the way for the playoffs.
His return on Wednesday and the game against the Houston Astros was a good beginning, allowing him to assess how prepared he is to play in the coming games.
"I feel great right now," Beltran said. "I'm just going to approach it day by day. I'm going to continue to come here and do the treatment and try to make it better. But [Wednesday] was a good day for me, because I wasn't really thinking about my hand. I was thinking about swinging the bat and trying to do my thing."
Cardinals are to take on the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, the three-game series that is being eagerly awaited. Beltran, owing to his experience and the power that he brings, will have a key role to play in determining the offence’s power.
Afterwards, the team shall play the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals; two teams with good track records this year. With not many breaks, Beltran has to be wholly prepared for the tight schedule ahead. Beltran, after going for an ultrasound, says everything is fine apart from inflammation in the middle finger – which might not be of big problem now.
"Right now, there's no time to take days off," Beltran said. "I was trying to find a way to stay in the lineup. We talked about it, we had an ultrasound to find out what is wrong. There's nothing wrong, the ligaments are fine.”
Friday’s series opener against the Reds will allow an opportunity to the club and fans to assess if Beltran is fully fit to play in the big encounters.
