St. Louis Cardinals' David Freese sets new record for RBIs in post-season – MLB Update
The St. Louis Cardinals’ rising star, their third baseman, David Freese smashed a two-run double on Friday, October 28 to make a new record of having the most RBIs in the post-season.
In Game 7 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers, the third baseman hit a two-run double just when the game had started. The first-inning two run double has now taken his statistics to 21 RBIs in the post-season.
It was on Thursday when David Freese brought back the slumping St. Louis Cardinals in the game with a two-run triple in the ninth inning to first level the score as the Rangers had a 7-5 lead until then.
Not only did Freese tie the score, but also hit a lead-off homer in the 11th inning to put the Cardinals on the winning track, securing a scintillating 10-9 victory.
Just when the Texas Rangers were going up with a 3-2 lead, almost all braced to win the first title of their history, Freese’s feat reversed the tide, helping the Cardinals secure a majestic win.
David Freese had first tied the record of having 19 RBIs with the 11th inning homer he had against the Rangers on Thursday. He is now leading the post-season with 21 RBIs.
Previously it was the likes of David Ortiz playing for the Boston Red Sox who had done it in 2004, Los Angeles Angels’ Scott Spiezio in 2002 and Sandy Alomar of the Cleveland Indians in 1997.
Down with two-outs in the ninth inning on Thursday, it was David Freese who came from behind to hit a two-run triple to tie the score in Game 6 and then the 11th inning blitz that left the Texas Rangers completely dazed.
It is important to recall that David Freese only a few days back managed to win the title of Most Valuable Player. With three homers, having a .545 batting average, he hit nine RBIs to be the MVP in the National League Championship Series.
If the Cardinals win on Friday, it will help pave the way for another MVP award in the World Series.
