St. Louis Cardinals' Yadier Molina hopes to play in series against Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina expressed his hope on Friday, August 17, that he will be able to appear in the remaining games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Currently engaged in three-game series, the Cardinals will have the last two games on Saturday and Sunday.
However, Yadier Molina is encountering problems in his back. With that issue, he has not been part of line-up in last three days. The player is making improvement which – he hopes, will eventually enable him to play in the ongoing series.
"Each day it's getting better," Molina said. "It's hard because you want to be part of this big series. We know the Pirates are in [position for] the Wild Card, and you want to be there for your team and try to help the team win. But at the same time, you have to think about your health. You can't go out there 50 percent. You have to go out there 100 percent."
He took swings in the batting cage on Friday. At a time when back problem could culminate with something potentially worrying for him and the team, Molina’s ability to swing on Friday testifies he will be able to regain his fitness.
He made a reference to this while speaking to media.
"Yesterday, I couldn't swing," Molina said. "Today, I was swinging way better than yesterday. Hopefully, tomorrow, I can give you good news."
The St. Louis Cardinals are currently occupying the third spot in the National League Central ranking. The potential contender that can reset and leave the St. Louis Cardinals behind are the Pittsburgh Pirates as they stand second in the ranking.
Engaged in exercises and already going through therapy, the team hopes that his recovery will be fast. For now it is Tony Cruiz who is catching while Molina is out of the line-up.
Nonetheless, the Cardinals need an experienced player given the toughening of the competition in the Division. The Redbirds will try to have a better edge as far as the regular veterans and in-form players are concerned. It is there that Cardinals' Yadier Molina figures prominently.
