St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Chris Carpenter feels pressure after poor outing in Game 2 of NLCS
St. Louis Cardinals' starting pitcher Chris Carpenter is feeling some pressure after his poor outing in Game 2 of National League Championship Series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday, October 15 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
He allowed five runs and six hits along with a homer on his 4.50 ERA. He pitched four innings and could not pitch in right areas as he lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Before start of the game, it was expected that Carpenter, who has been playing quite consistent in this Major League Baseball season, will be a key player against the Giants. He possesses extraordinary abilities to give his team a two game cushion in seven-match series.
"It's a fair question to ask. I don't think it's a true question, Mentally, there's just no way I'm going there. Not now. When you play and do what we do there is no such thing as fatigue and not being capable of doing it. I wouldn't go out there if I wasn't capable of doing it," Cards’ starter Carpenter expressed his feelings after the  loss in Game 2 of the National League Championship series on Monday night.
Later, Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny commented on his starter and explained about the level of form he is carrying in this Major League season especially in the post-season as he said, "If I had an explanation we'd fix it and we wouldn't have been stuck in the fourth (inning) again, These guys have done a nice job for us, our starters. (They) have pitched deep into the game for us all season long.”
Though Carpenter lost the game for the Cardinals, but still there were too many other mistakes by the rest of the roster that provided the Giants a clear upfront chance to oust them.
Closing pitcher Shelby Miller also could not support his team-mate Carpenter. Miller pitched 1.1 innings and received two runs and three hits on his rising 13.50 ERA.
Meanwhile, news is also coming that despite the recent poor performance, Carpenter has been selected by the Cardinals' team management to pitch in the Game 4 of National League Championship Series.
