St. Louis Cardinals' rookie Shelby Miller replaces Jaime Garcia in NLDS – NLDS News
St. Louis Cardinals have decided to replace Jaime Garcia with Shelby Miller in the National League Division Series after the result of MRI came on Tuesday, October 9. The change in roster had seemed imminent after the problem that Garcia faced in Game 2 against the Washington Nationals.
The MRI result showed a rotator cuff strain and inflammation in his left shoulder. It is pertinent to mention here that the starter had encountered this problem earlier in the regular season as well. With the replacement, even if Cardinals advance to National League Championship Series, Garcia is out of it now.
He is said to have a visit to New York Mets team doctor David Altchek. The visit will have a second opinion about the surgery needed to address the issue.
Despite the uncertainty that was palpable on Tuesday, Garcia did not seem hopeless.
"I am concerned because I know it's something I've been battling the last year," Garcia said. "But at the same time, I have a lot of faith that whatever happens with my arm is going to be good. I'm going to work as hard as I can to come back from anything. I'm just going to stay positive. We'll see what the doctor has to say now and hope for the best."
Garcia threw light on how he actually felt throughout the season and how he wanted go about it.  "I've had stuff in my shoulder happen before where it hasn't been 100 percent," Garcia said. "I wanted to learn how to pitch with a little something in my shoulder and be fine with it.”
If he is not to undergo surgery, Garcia will be able to make it to the World Series, provided the Cardinals qualify. The World Series champions, with the kind of performance they have exhibited throughout the season, seem likely to stun their fans and critics alike once again.
Garcia had 3.25 ERA after he came from disabled list in the regular season with 4-5 record. Now that he is off, it is rookie Shelby Miller who will be looking to do the needed in the games ahead.
