St. Louis Cardinals' starter Jaime Garcia exits the NLDS Game 2 early – NLDS Update
St. Louis Cardinals' starter Jaime Garcia had to exit early on Monday, October 7, in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals after what was described as ‘impingement’ in his left shoulder. Although the Cardinals eventually won the game 12-4, Garcia’s status for rest of the season is now unknown.
He will have to wait for Tuesday as he had to undergo an MRI on Monday following the issue in his left shoulder. Important to remember here is that Garcia had already spent his time in the disabled list earlier this year.
On Monday, after the Cardinals won the game, Garcia had a feeling which was admixture of both excitement and sorrow.
"I guess I would have to say I'm excited because we won, but disappointed personally, because of the way I had to come out of the game," Garcia said. "We'll see what happens."
When pressed as to when the problem had actually arisen, Garcia did not have a specific answer to the question.
"I can't really talk about that. It just wasn't right, and it never got better," he said. "The last couple of weeks, I've been feeling the best I've felt in a long time, and everything has been going really good. I don't know how it happened. I don't know when it happened. I'm just hoping that it's not too bad."
It was Lance Lynn who replaced Garcia in Monday’s NLDS Game 2 against the Washington Nationals. At a time when the Cardinals were 1-0 in the best-of-five game NLDS, Lynn pitched outstandingly well as the replacement for the pitcher.
For now the club hopes there is nothing particularly serious about the issue being faced by Garcia. If the issue turns out to be serious, this may imply his ouster from the roster, unable to play the National League Championship Series provided the Redbirds qualify.
Garcia expressed that he wanted to go in the game and give the team a chance to win. But much to his chagrin and sadness, nothing of that materialised, having now thrown the starter’s status into uncertainty for rest of postseason games.
