St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright feels strong – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ starter Adam Wainwright on Tuesday, February 28, expressed his contentment with the throwing session at Jupiter, Florida. Tuesday’s session, it is pertinent to mention, involved some of the big hitters of the Redbirds.
The Cardinals, whose Spring Training session had begun last week continued on Tuesday with full pace underscoring the significance the club attaches to it. Adam Wainwright’s presence was of crucial importance since he had missed the previous season due to
injury on his wrist.
Wainwright’s departure triggered immense concerns the past year, prompting the questions if the Cardinals will be able to handle the defence. They managed it somehow, but this time round, Wainwright will be a welcome addition to it.
He threw against the likes of Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina, Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday on Tuesday to find out if the pitches had the effectiveness and power required to hold off the offence. His experience for the tougher session was pretty good as
he described it.
"I don't feel fatigued at all, and that's exactly why I may, every now and then, throw less off the mound or just skip a light side [session]," Wainwright said. "I have thrown so much off the mound that I need to be smart about my [Spring Training] innings
before my [regular season] innings. I don't want to burn all my bullets pregame."
His velocity is increasing with the variety of pitches being thrown now. With the Cactus League also in sight, there are abundant chances that Wainwright may get to play a game there. But as to what eventually transpires is something that cannot be speculated
now.
Tuesday’s session, in all likelihood, was great for Wainwright as he stated that he felt good and ready. "Today, I felt strong. It felt compact. The delivery felt nice," Wainwright said. "The group I faced today were about as good as you can get.”
With the satisfactory throwing session greeting the Cardinals starter, it has to be seen in the days to come how he fully establishes command to be able to pitch when the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season commences.
