St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright optimistic about future
Things for the St. Louis Cardinals look a bit uncertain, given the injury of one of the club’s leading pitchers in the rotation. Adam Wainwright suffered a ligament tear in his shoulder recently, which landed him on the surgery table.
With Tommy John Surgery on the cards, there’s no doubt that Wainwright will not be back this season. However, he was able to express his optimism on the future as he addressed the reporters in Jupiter, Florida.
Though there is no point thinking of this season, Wainwright feels there is optimism for the coming year. He felt no disappointment in acknowledgement of his season’s absence this year.
"Either way, I'm dealing with a lost season", Wainwright said. "I've definitely come to terms with it. I was blessed with a big sense of peace. Ever since the night that I [suffered the injury], I had a gut feeling that it was probably the time. My elbow
had gone".
The top ball thrower addressed the press from St. Louis as he came out of surgery from Dr. George Paletta a day ago. Still suffering from the medicine and the effects of the operation, Wainwright felt no hesitation in talking to reporters.
Adam went on to say that he was physically drained from the injury. However, he was obtaining peace on a mental level. He has been on strong medication and that has made things easier for Wainwright.
He went on to assure the reporters by saying that he told everyone that the procedure went well. For now there was nothing to do but wait and see. Nevertheless, he iterated that he felt great.
Wainwright suffered an ulnar collateral ligament injury on his elbow on February 21st, during a live batting practice session. He talked about the extent of the injury.
"[The ligament] wasn't completely torn, but the problem was the top of my ligament had a new tear in it. Where I had injured it before was at the bottom of my ligament. When you put that all together -- I will refer to the doctors on the percentages of it
being torn -- but basically the whole thing was mangled. It was time for it to go".
The 2010 Cy Young award runner-up in the National League believes he will be back soon. In terms of the fans, the thoughts are the same.
