St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright pitches for the second time – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ starter Adam Wainwright had the second game of the Grapefruit League on Tuesday, March 13. The game against the New York Mets, among other things, drew considerable attention towards Wainwright as he is attempting to make a comeback.
Tuesday’s game saw the starter throw three scoreless innings after the game that he had played on Friday.
Adam Wainwright also had his insight to share into Tuesday’s game. The pitcher thought he did not have good control over the body. Nonetheless, he said, his arm felt great.
"When you look at the [final line], it looks fine," he said. "But I wasn't really controlling my body real well. I've got a little work to do, but the good thing about pitching is that some days when you don't necessarily feel great, you can still go out
there and find a way. My arm feels great. My body felt great. I just wasn't getting it in the proper position."
Adam Wainwright could not play even a single game in 2011 owing to the injury that he had on his throwing arm. That he had to undergo surgery practically reduced any possibility to make appearance throughout the season last year.
Last Friday when he had his first ever pitching session in the Grapefruit League, he did appreciably well. His velocity stayed in around 92-94 mph which was seen as a major improvement in the pitching.
During Tuesday’s game, to some extent, there was a visible change. He was throwing with the speed ranging from 88 to 91 mph. But that is not something worrying in his estimation due largely to the trouble he had to get some leverage off the mound.
However, he commented that he was getting more comfortable. "I think if I had kept going, you would have seen it start to creep back up because I started getting more comfortable," Wainwright said.
Adam Wainwright’s return in the team is of colossal significance given the reports of Chris Carpenter having neck stiffness. The sooner this pitcher regains his momentum, the better it is for the Redbirds.
