St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright takes to the mound – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ starter Adam Wainwright will take the mound for the first time on Friday, March 9, after a considerably long period of injury that afflicted the player. Wainwright had a surgery on his elbow last year that consigned him to the disabled-list.
However, as he could not appear in any game last year, Wainwright will take the mound on Friday against the Minnesota Twins in Grapefruit League. There obviously is a sense of anticipation and zeal in these moments for the young and multi-talented player.
"I'm normally not a butterfly guy, [but] I expect some butterflies," said Wainwright, who will have the first game this season against the Twins on Friday. "There's been several real key moments in my life where I've had some butterflies."
The Tommy John surgery might have been excruciatingly painful and ostensibly long, but the player is excited how things have transpired. Adam Wainwright’s departure was virtually an omen of disaster for the Cardinals the past year, but the team managed to
win the World Series without him.
This year, as he is part and parcel of the Redbirds, chances have multiplied for the Cardinals to defend the title with supreme confidence. The year that has passed, in Wainwright’s view, has been like a breeze.
"Strangely, it went by fast," Wainwright said. "Looking back, it was a breeze. I can't really complain about the rehab that I had. I think it went as smooth as it possibly could."
The home opener that the Cardinals will have next month on April 7 as it is Wainwright who will take charge of the mound for the first time in the regular season this year. There is a pervading sense of excitement in the club with his return.
With the kind of pitching sessions he has had in the Spring Training camp, Adam Wainwright so it seems, is all set to have some smooth sailing. With the likes of Chris Carpenter available to the Cardinals, the rival teams will be looking to strategise with
more adeptness to sustain the pressure the duo will put once the season kicks off.
