St. Louis Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter is right choice for Game 7 of World Series – MLB
Update
The St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa defended his decision to start Game 7 with Chris Carpenter. Having got three days rest due to the rain that washed away Game 6 on Wednesday, the Cardinals’ starter was all prepared to take on the Texas Rangers.
Chris Carpenter, if the list of pitchers is to be seen, is the best choice available to the Cardinals. Given the fact that he was one of the integral factors in contributing to the win against the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series
is something that the manager has kept in mind.
But for the team manager, the decision was not made keeping his mental preparedness in mind. For La Russa, as he described in detail, it was the physical fitness and preparedness of the Carpenter that was kept in mind prior to making the decision.
He also referred to the one-on-one meeting of the starter with the pitching coach Dave Duncan.
"Actually didn't decide until this morning," La Russa said. "And I think first of all, [pitching coach Dave Duncan] had a real heart-to-heart with him to gauge just how ready he was to pitch just physically, not mentally but physically.”
In the presence of Kyle Lohse, Edwin Jackson and Westbrook, the Cardinals seem to have a big list of pitchers. However, with Chris Carpenter doing the trick throughout the season, he makes a wonderful choice for the manager to start the game.
“[It] makes sense to start him -- goes through his routine, gives us all he has. It made less sense, I think, to come out of the bullpen at some point got to rush, warm up, warm him up once, you don't use him, all that stuff.”
Cardinals came from behind in the ongoing World Series on Thursday when they beat the Rangers to level the series. It remains to be seen if Carpenter will be able to do his magic on Friday, the way he has been doing throughout the year.
