St. Louis Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter ready to take on challenge of World Series Game 7
The St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Chris Carpenter accepted the challenge to pitch in one of the most exhilarating games of his life on Friday. Game 7 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers will be the ultimate test of the starter’s nerves.
Cardinals’ manager named Carpenter on Thursday to start the game. Scheduled to be played on Friday, Game 7 is being tipped to be a breathtaking close encounter after the stunning comeback that the Cardinals made whereby the Rangers initially had a 3-2 lead
in the best-of-seven games.
The Cardinals’ pitcher, when asked if he really wished to pitch responded affirmatively. "Why wouldn't you want the ball?" Carpenter said. "If you don't, then you might as well go home."
"It's pretty neat," Carpenter said. "It all comes down to one game. Two teams that have been playing great baseball, working hard, and it's amazing that it all comes down to one game. It will be a lot of fun."
The team manager had earlier referred to his physical preparedness as well. It was not only about mental readiness that was kept in mind. Important to remember is the duel that Carpenter had with Roy Halladay whereby the former struck the ultimate victory.
With an 11-9 record in 34 appearances this year, the Cardinals’ pitcher comes forward as natural choice for the team with a 3.45 ERA. However, the most striking feature has been his ability to prevail in the bigger games in 2011. Case in point, will definitely
remain, the game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
With Game 7 on the cards now, Chris Carpenter will command enormous attention and immense expectations from the fans. Even if Carpenter falters, however, the Cardinals have named a strong bullpen to replace him on Friday. It will be interesting to see how
well Carpenter does during Game 7, as the weight of the entire season has now come down to one final game. But nonetheless, he is expected to do the magic he has been doing this year and guide the Cardinals to the ultimate prize of the World Series title.
