St. Louis Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter undergoes successful surgery – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, July 19, reported that the club’s starter Chris Carpenter has undergone successful neurogenic thoracic outlet surgery in Dallas. The announcement has understandably brought a sense of relief not only in the team but also in the fan circles of the Redbirds.
According to the announcement, Dr. Greg Pearl performed the surgery. With that, the ace starter shall stay in Dallas for a few days. While his stay there is for recovery, he will join the club soon to start the rehab.
While the rehab process shall start in next few days, or maybe weeks, what is clear is that the starter shall not be able to play this season largely because the rehabilitation may take up to three months. With a couple of months of this season left, Carpenter is well advised to rest.
The team’s general manager John Mozeliak was visibly satisfied with the successful surgery when he spoke to media on Thursday.
"We are pleased with today's results, and Chris will soon return to St. Louis to begin his rehab," Cardinals' general manager John Mozeliak said. "We look forward to seeing Chris around the ballpark during his recovery."
Chris Carpenter’s next presence on the mound can be seen next year when the season kicks off. Although it will be a long wait, requiring patience, ultimately it is in the interest of the team and for the career of the player to have the rest now instead of endeavouring or risking to play.
From what it seems, he will come back stronger in 2013. There were a lot of hopes this year when the season had kicked off that Carpenter would be instrumental in team’s success. But not unlike Adam Wainwright who missed the whole season in 2011, Carpenter also missed the opportunity to play this year.
The fans and the management shall keep their fingers crossed for an earlier recovery and successful rehabilitation of Carpenter prior to the commencement of 2013 Major League Baseball season. The Cardinals, nonetheless, shall hope not to see any of their player facing the same fate that Wainwright and Carpenter witnessed simultaneously in two years.
