St. Louis Cardinals David Freese continues to shine –MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese was hailed on Monday, April 16 for his highly consistent performance since the start of the season. The player who was instrumental in stealing the unlikely wins from the Texas Rangers in the sixth and final games of the World Series final last year has remained equally effective this year.
With the commencement of 2012 season, David Freese has so far played eight games, missing two due to the irritation on the finger. In those eight appearances, the player has had 32 at-bat, scoring a total of 11 RBIs with an impressive .406 average, hitting three home runs.
It is this remarkable consistency in the performance that has won the laudation of the fans and critics alike. Among those who shared their views about Freese’s performance was Lance Berkman, the teammate who has been playing with him for years now.
"He's maturing into the kind of player that he is," teammate Lance Berkman said. "You saw it during the postseason last year. He is a big-time player. If he stays healthy, he's going to hit 30, drive in 100 and hit over .300. He's just a great hitter."
Not only that, Berkman predicts an illustrious and big future for the player whereby he may be the next to get the contract exceeding $200 million. From the record of this player, that prospect is not beyond the bounds of possibility.
"If you're looking for your next $200 million contract," Berkman said, "he's got a chance to do it. He's that kind of player."
This year, Freese is second in National League with .406 in BA, fifth in RBI, fifth in HR, sixth in both SLG and OPS. That testifies the level of professionalism and consistency that he has maintained so far, and will continue to do so if only he does not fall victim to injuries.
Freese has not been able to play in last two games due to the irritation on the finger, which the team expects will heal soon. With Freese continuing to shine and strike, the Cardinals have all the chance to successfully defend their World Series title.
