St. Louis Cardinals’ David Freese foresees tough competition in Game 3 of NLCS – NLCS Update
With Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants scheduled for Thursday, October 18, the Cardinals' third baseman David Freese is foreseeing tough competition ahead.
On Tuesday, October 16, Freese spoke of the preparedness both teams have after the Giants tied the best-of-seven games on Monday with their impressive 7-1 win.
"I think it's huge that they won the second game," Cards' third baseman David Freese said. "Statistically, if you go up 2-0, you've got a pretty good shot of winning the series. That's not the case [now]."
Cardinals have slated Kyle Lohse to start in Game 3 at Busch Stadium. While the Giants will rely on their ace, Matt Cain. Since both teams have named their ace starters for the challenging Game 3, it is being touted as one of the tough competitions to watch.
The collision involving Marco Scutaro and Matt Holliday in Monday’s Game 3 continues to reverberate. With Scutaro wounded and having to exit Game 2, the rivalry between the two teams is expected to increase in Game 3.
However, Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny wants everyone to go past that episode and focus on the coming encounter.
"The more it's kept alive and talked about like this, the more it just seems to linger," Cards' manager Mike Matheny said. "Right now, we just understand that they need to rally around each other, and we hope that the rest of the results turn out good. Once again, we're not looking for anybody to be hurt here."
Game 2 saw the Cardinals collapse both offensively and defensively. The fact that the rotation could not do its bid as Chris Carpenter gave up five runs in his four innings. The offence put up only a run on the board, that is something the Cardinals do not want to see in Game 3.
Spirits and morale is high, the Cardinals hope a perfect defensive and offensive combination will readjust things for the club and give them the edge to successfully overcome the Giants in the remaining games.
