St. Louis Cardinals’ David Freese happy over Most Valued Player Award – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ third baseman David Freese expressed his happiness over the National League Championship Series Most Valued Player Award. Becoming a hero is an achievement that he seems to be enjoying as well.
The player, however, is looking forward to the World Series where his performance will be key for the ultimate success of the Cardinals. Considering the fact that the team has the likes of among others, Lance Berkman, Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday, he
has risen as a resplendent star.
In October alone, where he played in the playoffs, he has an impressive .425 average. The third baseman has remained 40 at-bats, having scored eight runs with 17 hits to his credit, having had four home-runs and 14 RBIs.
All that he has been doing, gleaning glory and winning praises for his performance, he owes to the constant phase of learning from watching his team-mates. Starting from Pujols to Holliday to Berkman, everyone has remained a source of inspiration for the
player.
"When you watch Albert, Lance and Matt, and how they do things, it helps," Freese said. "You've got to go one pitch at a time."
With the regular season .297 average where he had 99 hits, scoring 41 runs which included 10 home-runs and 55 RBIs, Freese has impressed even the most talented and experienced of players out there.
Matt Holliday is one of them. "He's a great player," Holliday said. "He's hot, and playing really well. He's a major contributor, and that's why he was standing up there [on the podium]."
Berkman called him special. "He's special. There is no doubt about it," Berkman said.
The third baseman, whose contribution has brought the team to one of the most desired and eagerly sought venues, has a few more things to do as the World Series kicks off on Wednesday, October 19. Chief among it is to repeat the performance he had in the
playoffs.
