St. Louis Cardinals’ David Freese motivated to do more: Mike Matheny – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ new manager, Mike Matheny has said that David Freese is not content with whatever has happened recently, and will cash in his chips in the days to come. His comments were with regards to the departure of accomplished slugger Albert
Pujols, leaving a huge hole in the offence.
“It's not as if David Freese is content with what has happened and now he's just going to cash in his chips,” said new Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny. “He's very motivated. He's been in the gym consistently.”
The 28-year-old player who signed a 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels worth $254 million has not only left his legacy in the club, but created a vacuum that will take a good amount of time to fill in the days to come.
As the St. Louis Cardinals see it, David Freese might well be an adequate substitute for the moment. Known for his solid defence, Freese also enjoys prominence for his hard hitting. Of the particularly joyous moment was the Game 6 of the World Series against
the Texas Rangers, whereby he had a historic 11th inning walk-off homer to endow victory on the St. Louis Cardinals.
That feat at the Busch Stadium was one of its kind, gloriously paving the way for the huge success that awaited the St. Louis Cardinals in the form of the 11th World Series title of the franchises’ history.
Matheny added, “He looks great. And he was on a whirlwind tour there for a while, but you know what, those things don't happen very often, and for him to jump out there and enjoy that is not a bad thing. But I think he's rerouted his attention, and he's
excited about 2012.”
He has risen to the status of an absolute star for the St. Louis Cardinals which cherish every moment of the player’s presence in the team, and in the ballpark. With slugger, Albert Pujols gone, it is now David Freese who will have immense attention with
his conspicuous visibility to put the St. Louis Cardinals on the winning track.
