St. Louis Cardinals’ David Freese shatters Texas Rangers dream with his 11th inning homer
David Freese homered on Thursday, October 27 to win a breathtaking 10-9 victory for the St. Louis Cardinals over the Texas Rangers. This was one of the most epic encounters of the World Series in baseball history, bringing the Cardinals back in the Series
just when they were going down 3-2 in the best-of-seven Series.
Freese’s feat was among the five major hits that compensated for the issues the Cardinals had throughout the game, last of which proved the game-winning homer for the team.
His first came in the ninth when the Cardinals were falling behind, the Rangers leading with 7-5, as Freese went for a two-run triple, levelling the score to avoid what seemed an inevitable defeat for the Cardinals.
But the stunner of all came in the bottom of the 11th inning with the score standing at 9-9 Freese hit another homer to win the anxiously watched game for the Cardinals, levelling the World Series to 3-all. The last, Game 7 will be played on Friday
now.
Jaime Garcia, who was to start the game for the Cardinals, gave up two runs in his three innings with five hits compared to that of Chris Lewis whose 5.1 innings for the Rangers brought four runs and three hits with a 2.25 ERA.
The Cardinals’ defence seemed vulnerable, so did that of the Rangers who were unable to keep the Cardinals’ offence at bay. Derek Holland did his bid in two innings, allowing a run while Fernando Salas of the Cardinals gave up two runs in two innings.
The most disastrous inning for the Rangers, however, came from Neftali Feliz whose ninth inning proved a game-changer for the Cardinals, allowing David Freese to go for a two-run triple while Jason Motte gave up one home-run in his two innings with a 8.10
ERA.
To stop the seemingly recharged Cardinals’ offence, the Rangers brought Michael Lowe in the 11th. Just when he expected a little, or dreaded a lot, David Freese homered to lead off in the inning to bring a glorious 10-9 victory for the Cardinals,
allowing the team to level the series 3-3 apiece.
