St. Louis Cardinals’ J. C. Romero is done with the supplement lawsuit – MLB News
J. C. Romero, the St. Louis Cardinals’ reliever, has reportedly settled the lawsuit that embroiled him in 2008 while he was the part of the Philadelphia Phillies. With the settlement of the lawsuit which was against the Vitamin Shoppe, Ergopharm and Proviant
Technologies, the whole episode is history now.
The terms of the settlement, as the news reports indicated, has not been made public neither by the companies nor by the attorney Howard Jacobs, who represented Romero in the case.
Nonetheless, in 2008 he had filed a lawsuit against the creators and distributors of the supplement that had brought an anguishing predicament after he could not avert the suspension that came his way following the failed drug test.
The whole controversy popped up in 2008 and eventually ended with Romero’s serving the suspension in 2009.
Romero had this to say when asked about it only recently. "I didn't cheat," Romero told a newspaper. "Some other people were being negligent, and I had to pay the price. But I've been using this to educate other players. I haven't been able to be the same
since I was suspended. I didn't believe the suspension could affect me the way it did."
The terms of agreement or the money paid could have been a topic of discussion. However, Romero stated that the amount of money in the settlement is not relevant at all. It was rather the integrity that mattered, something which was put on question after
the incident.
"The amount of money [in the settlement] isn't relevant," he said. "What is relevant is that people know my side. Some fans questioned my integrity. Now there is some closure, and I can say the 2008 World Series was legit.”
Romero now wants to focus on the future where he thinks he has the potential to remain dominant for another five years. With the club like the St. Louis Cardinals that he represents, Romero certainly has a long way to go and forget what had enormously impacted
his career in the past. The days to come will see an evolutionary phase of the player.
