St. Louis Cardinals’ Jaime Garcia confident of winning Game 6 – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ starter Jaime Garcia impressed largely in September, when the team was 10.5 games behind Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card standings.
Garcia adopted an approach that any start he lost could effectively end his team’s run in the regular season and thus exposed his entire repertoire to guide the Cardinals to the playoffs and then push them ahead of teams like Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee
Brewers to bag the National League pennant for the first time since 2006.
After having established his valour on the mound, Garcia now faces an elimination situation when he takes the hill for Game 6 of the World Series against Texas Rangers on Thursday, October 27 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The game was initially
scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, but inclement weather forced authorities to push the game ahead by a day, as a minimum. It is worth mentioning here that the Rangers are leading 3-2 in the seven-game fiesta and need just one win to bag their first World
Series title in 51 years.
The Cardinals, on the other hand, have to win Game 6 to keep themselves in contention for top honours. The Rangers have not lost two consecutive games since mid-August and the Cardinals have made their name as a comeback genius. Game 6 will surely be a test
of nerves for someone like Garcia, who takes pride in pitching for the Cardinals.
Statistically speaking, in their 17 previous World Series appearances, the Redbirds have been in a similar situation for five times and have revamped themselves to win the title on four occasions. This situation, thus, is not new for the Cardinals. The Rangers,
on the contrary, have little experience to back themselves for the title from this point onwards. Their first appearance in the Fall Classic came last year and there was nothing special about it.
Garcia will be making his fifth career playoff start, but is yet to bag his first career postseason win. He has shown tremendous improvement and his last performance was a seven inning solid performance against the same opposition in Game 2 of the series.
It will be interesting to see if the left-handed starter can go a step ahead and add a win to his laurels.
