St. Louis Cardinals’ Jake Westbrook emerges with slimmer look – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Jake Westbrook stated on Tuesday, February 28, he is already feeling better and stronger as he continues the workout in the camp. Spring Training which is going with full swing at Jupiter Florida has been witnessing a flurry
of activities these days.
The gusto that personifies Jake Westbrook is not beyond comprehension either. The player has entered camp with a radically new look as far as his physique is concerned. He is slimmer and feels stronger this year.
"I already feel better," said Westbrook, now weighing 20 pounds less than his 2011 self. "I feel lighter. I feel healthier. I actually feel stronger. I'm feeling confident in my body and how it feels."
With the likes Chris Carpenter and others already pitching in the throwing session, there is a sense of contentment in the team manager’s outlook. He expresses his happiness with the successful sessions in the camp.
"I'm glad to see the bullpen sessions have been as successful as they have been," manager Mike Matheny said. "Whenever your body changes like that, you never know how it's going to hold up."
But shedding the pounds that he has, Westbrook has certainly exerted himself to achieve it. The 34-year-old pitcher could be seen gaining weight the past season. However, the new look suits the player now as he has combined healthy eating with rigorous workout.
Westbrook had reasons to attain this goal as far as his weight is concerned. He did it largely to prepare himself as the starter for the St. Louis Cardinals this year; something that he now seems ever closer.
Once the season begins, the ones who have not seen Westbrook this Spring Training yet will find him physically transformed. As to what this reduction of weight harbingers is a matter of speculation. Whether he will be able to increase the chances of the
Cardinals success is something that the fans will have to wait to find out. It will be exciting to see what type of impact the new improved Westbrook will manage to make during the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
