St. Louis Cardinals’ Jon Jay extends support to Ryan Braun – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielder Jon Jay stated on Sunday, January 15, that he is a big Ryan Braun supporter. As the Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun awaits the result of the appeal he has made to avoid a 50-game suspension, the statement can be interpreted
as huge moral support for Braun.
The trouble started surfacing in December 2011 when the reports came to fore that Braun had tested positive for a banned substance. This could not be more disappointing for Ryan Braun just when he had an incredible season.
However, his old college-mate and a strong player himself, Jon Jay says that the player intends to get his name cleared prior to the commencement of Spring Training. He asserts that the whole situation has been quite difficult for Braun.
"It's been a difficult situation for him because none of this stuff was supposed to come out," Jay said. "He is due his appeal process. He hasn't really had the chance to comment on everything because he has to let everything take its place. But I'm a big
Ryan Braun supporter. He's one of those guys who has helped me out tremendously in my career, and we're great friends.”
With a .332 average in the 150 games that Braun appeared during the past season, he stood second in the National League in batting averages, first in OPS with .994, first in SLG with .597, second in runs with 109, fourth in RBIs with 111 and sixth in home-runs
with 33.
It is this amazing performance that sets the player apart from his contemporaries. He virtually constitutes the backbone of the team and his suspension will be damaging for the Brewers in the first half of the season.
"It's an unfortunate situation right now, and hopefully everything can get cleared up,” Jay said.
It is worthwhile to recall that Jay was initially part of the Brewers when he was a first year player in the draft of 2006, only to move to the Cardinals afterwards. With the long association that he has with Braun, he will definitely want a bright prospect
for the Brewers’ Braun.
