St. Louis Cardinals’ Lance Berkman revisits his statement on Texas Rangers – MLB World Series
The St. Louis Cardinals’ right-fielder Lance Berkman retracted his statement on the Texas Rangers he had issued when the regular season kicked off. On a query pertaining to the Rangers early in the season, Berkman had called them ‘an average team’. However,
with the team having already qualified for the World Series, there is a lot that Berkman has to ponder over.
His statement may have caused a lot of ill-will as well, potentially showing the conceit the player possessed and a low view of the team in terms of performance. However, he had never intended it in that sense which he laboured to clarify.
"Certainly that was the wrong opinion," Berkman said on Tuesday at Busch Stadium. "But it became a bigger story than I ever intended it to be. I certainly didn't intend any ill-will toward the Rangers' organization, and on top of that, I wasn't right. So
what else can I say?"
With the retraction of the comment, there was a sense of satisfaction in both camps whereby neither of the two teams had any more complaints in this regard. Important to remember is that Berkman comes in the World Series with an impressive .301 batting average,
virtually awing his fans and critics alike.
No less than 31 homers has this player hit with 94 RBIs to his credit for the St. Louis Cardinals. There is no denying the fact that he is one of the most prolific contributors to the Cardinals glorious journey of victories, confronting the Texas Rangers
for the first time in the franchise’s history of qualifying for the World Series.
"Everyone's entitled to their opinion," Daniels said. "I give him credit for having a big year and getting his team here, and he's retracted the comments. So no harm no foul."
However, when Lance Berkman comes to Arlington on Saturday, October 22 to face the Texas Rangers, he may face boos from the die-hard fans of the Texas Rangers, taking enormous offence for what he had earlier said. Although he has already clarified his position,
it remains interesting to observe as to how forgiving the fans remain for the player.
