St. Louis Cardinals’ Lance Lynn to start in NLCS Game 5 against San Francisco Giants – NLCS News

St. Louis Cardinals will have Lance Lynn as starter for National League Championship Series Game 5 against the San Francisco Giants on Friday, October 19. Lynn is to make his second start of the post-season.
It was actually Lynn who started Game 1 for the Cardinals. Much as he was anticipating to perfectly discharge the heavy responsibility lying on his shoulder, Lynn could not quite do what the club was hoping.
Although the team eventually won the game 6-4, it was the bullpen that took it upon itself to compensate for what the rotation had unexpectedly failed to do. Lynn pitched only 3.2 innings, surrendering four costly runs along with five hits and two walks.
However, he has learnt a lot from the experience that he had in Game 1. Lynn is now looking forward to executing the challenge for Game 5 with utmost perfection.
"I'm as strong as I've ever been all year, and the playoff start, [it] was good to get one," Lynn said. "Wish I could have done better the first time, but I got a lot to learn from that one. I'm looking forward to the next one."
If he failed to go beyond three innings in Game 1, that hardly is a matter of concern now given the Cardinals visible lead. Manager Mike Matheny has reposed his confidence in the player and hopes he will deliver in the second start of the post-season.
“We all know that he's a very durable pitcher, and fully anticipate him going deeper into [Game 1]," Matheny said. "But we needed him out of the 'pen [in the NLDS], and he did a great job for us. Now he's a little more into his routine, and hopefully that will translate into him being more comfortable when he gets out there in the first."
With Game 5 scheduled for Friday, it will certainly be interesting to see how well Lynn does here. His stats during the regular season were impressive, having 18-7 record with 3.78 ERA in 35 games that he played and 29 starts as a whole.
