St. Louis Cardinals’ Lance Lynn to take the rotation – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals intend to try Lance Lynn in the rotation as they are deliberating over the possible fallout of Chris Carpenter’s injury. The neck stiffness has led to the inability of the Cardinals to competitively pitch in
the Grapefruit League.
Now that Lance Lynn is being seen as the potential substitute for Carpenter owing to the latter’s injury, the 24-year-old starter may potentially be part of the rotation in the new season. Much as this decision is weighty, the team
manager thinks it will only remain a change of mindset.
"It would just be the change of a mindset," Matheny said. "You [would] get him back to thinking about being that bullpen guy again. Nothing would change as far as where Lance's progression would go."
Lynn has contributed to the rotation in the past, but this will be an essentially big task put on his shoulder. Until the recent past, he was being tipped as the part of the team’s bullpen instead of rotation.
Just when the air of uncertainty surrounds the Cardinals camp on the fate of Carpenter’s fitness, Lynn appears to be good enough option. Lynn will have a colossal and unprecedented opportunity to get his name slated for the rotation
at a time when there are other favourites for the spot.
In the presence of Adam Wainwright, Kyle Lohse and Carpenter himself, Lynn will be the charmed and successful if he clicks in the rotation. Lynn is looking forward to it.
"Everything feels great, so I'm looking forward to throwing a couple innings, throwing more pitches and using all four pitches I have," Lynn said. "It's going to be exciting to keep going and start to use all pitches instead of just
one or two that I would use out of the bullpen."
A lot, indeed, depends on what transpires as far as Carpenter’s injury is concerned. Provided he regains his fitness, Lynn will go back to his previous position. However, if Carpenter cannot get back early, it is Lynn who will have
the responsibility on his shoulder in the days to come. It will be interesting to see how Lynn can handle the pressure and put in a good performance for the Cardinals.
