St. Louis Cardinals’ Matt Holliday fast improving – MLB Playoffs
The St. Louis Cardinals’ left-fielder Matthew Thomas Holliday is fast improving after he underwent a period of rest due to a sore right hand. The injury that could have jeopardised the post-season games did not turn out to be threatening for the Cardinals’
left-fielder.
In the National League Championship Series, his performance was comparatively good as the 6ft 4in player charged both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers pitchers. That is what actually dispels the impression that he might not be able to
give out his best.
He braced himself for the post-season games just when there were whispers that the player could not perform to the best of his ability. Lance Berkman dispelled any such impression, recalling the times when Holliday remained the Most Valued Player in 2007.
"I have a hard time walking anybody to get to Matt Holliday," Berkman said. "He's won a batting title. He's been an LCS MVP [with Colorado in 2007]. You might get him a couple of times, but you'd better be careful. If they keep doing it, he's going to absolutely
make them pay."
Holliday, on the other hand, refuses to look back. Having a forward-looking approach for now, his disposition enables him to both mentally and physically prepare himself for the big games ahead against the Texas Rangers.
"I feel pretty good about where I'm at," Holliday said Tuesday. "I think [the off days] have been beneficial to everybody."
Coming in the post-season games after the injury, Matt Holliday has remained 32 at-bats in October, maintaining an average of .375. He has scored eight runs, having had 12 hits with a home-run and five RBIs. Having had a good record in October, he is expected
to practically demonstrate the same talent in the World Series as well.
Coming off of the regular season games with a .296 average, the injury does not seem to have deterred the player. As the World Series kicks off on Wednesday, October 19 there is a lot that the fans are expecting from him to do for the Cardinals.
