St. Louis Cardinals’ Mike Matheny impressed with the team’s preparations – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny stated on Sunday, March 4, that the team has done their work and is prepared for the year. Mike Matheny, who seems impressed by the preparation of the team, hopes the team will defend the title well.
"They're kind of champing at the bit now," manager Mike Matheny said. "They've done their work, and they've prepared. I've just been so impressed. I think they all feel like their bodies are ready, their swings are ready, their arms are ready. That was the
goal."
This year the Cardinals will have 28 games in the Grapefruit League which will formally commence their endeavour in 2012. On Monday, March 5, the Redbirds will take on the Miami Marlins that will determine how prepared they are for the season.
St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series the past year with splendour of genuine Champions. Faced with the otherwise menacing Texas Rangers, the Cardinals carried the day with a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series.
There might have been a series of setbacks since then which might have greatly impacted the outlook of the club. However, they are ready to compensate those with more determination and zeal. Thus the departure of former manager Tony La Russa and slugger
Albert Pujols is a thing of the past now.
It is interesting to note here that prior to being named the manager of St. Louis Cardinals, Mike Matheny did not even have experience of leading any Minor League team. However, his inexperience has not been any hurdle in asserting himself as the manager
of the team.
"I know what that means to a veteran player," Matheny said. "A lot of those things have gone well in the past."
Monday’s game will have Kyle Lohse as the starter as fans await the game with bated breath. Interestingly, the strategy for whole week’s games has been chalked out as the Cardinals will face rival teams.
It will be interesting to see how the Cardinals carry on the legacy of victories that they had set in 2011 with a wonderful performance.
