St. Louis Cardinals’ Ryan Theriot to replace Nick Punto at second base – MLB World Series
While the St. Louis Cardinals’ manager deemed it inevitable to replace David Freese with Don Descalso at third base, he has decided to bring Ryan Theriot at second instead of Nick Punto. The move comes at a time when Theriot is gradually getting his form
back.
Nick Punto has been a part of the St. Louis Cardinals in the last two games of the World Series at the third base. Theriot’s arrival may well and may well not, be a surprise for the fans. Theriot had not consistently performed in the National League Championship
Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
However, his performance in the National League Division Series was not very disappointing. Against the supposedly strong Philadelphia Phillies, Theriot had a good record of 6-for-10 overall, prompting his arrival in the team once again.
But his preference over Nick Punto is a question that Tony La Russa called a tough decision. Nevertheless, now that Theriot is back, a lot is expected from the player in Game 3 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers.
"It's a tough call when you've got to go Punto and Ryan, and we won the first game with Nick," La Russa said. "I'm just looking forward to Ryan being the American League second leadoff. He's hitting ninth at the top of our lineup."
Despite all that did not go well for Ryan Theriot in some of the playoffs, the post-season performance remained good. The team manager grasps the fact that Theriot constitutes an important part of the team. It is therefore necessary to give him chance in
a big game like this.
“Ryan has been an important part of how we got here," La Russa said. "He's had a really good postseason."
His regular season average stood at .271 in 132 games that he played for the St. Louis Cardinals, having scored 46 runs in the 442 at-bats, 47 of which were home-runs with a .321 OPB. His post-season, on the other hand, has a .348 average with three runs
in 23 at-bats.
It remains to be seen how he takes on the Texas Ranger when Game 3 kicks off on Saturday.
