St. Louis Cardinals’ Skip Schumaker to replace Jon Jay – MLB World Series Update
The St. Louis Cardinals have decided to shake the roster so as to infuse new energy into centre-field. The decision came after their slumping out-fielder Jon Jay failed to live up to the team’s expectations.
Having been at-bat for no less than 14 times in the World Series, Jon Jay has failed to get any run throughout the Series. This understandably forced the team manager Tony La Russa to opt for Skip Schumaker to replace him in centre-field in Game 5 of the
World Series.
Although the change was imminent, Tony La Russa did not pin any blame on the player for his seemingly underwhelming performance at a time when the Cardinals expect every player to give his best.
While acknowledging that Jon Jay is a good player, La Russa stated that he has not been able to execute things sufficiently. There is, however, much that he needs to do.
"If you know Jay, he's starting to pull his hair out because he's just not right at the plate," manager Tony La Russa said. "It's not affecting his defense at all. He's a good offensive player, and I'm going to give Schu a shot, because Schu is a really
good player and can play the outfield and come in with a fresh stroke, and then we'll see about Game 6.”
Despite the change that the Cardinals’ roster has now seen, Tony La Russa commented that he will not completely dump the player.
With a .157 average in October, Jon Jay has a total of seven runs in the month, having eight hits to his credit. His average in the regular season stood at .297 with 56 runs to his credit, having hit 37 RBIs and 10 home-runs.
Schumaker, on the other hand, has remained with a record of 11-6 in October and a .545 average, something that makes him a natural choice at this juncture. His regular season record was not bad either with 367-104, having scored 34 runs and 38 RBIs to his
credit. It will interesting to see what impact Schumaker will make at centre-field for the Cardinals as they chase the coveted World Series title.
