St. Louis Cardinals’ Tony La Russa content on starting Jaime Garcia in Game 6 – MLB Update
Even though the St. Louis Cardinals are trailing 2-3 in the World Series, manager Tony La Russa is confident of a comeback in Game 6 and believes that his team has what it takes to become World Champions.
Talking to reporters at Busch Stadium in St. Louis after inclement weather postponed Game 6 till Thursday, October 27, La Russa expressed confidence in his bull-pen and vowed of an improved performance after the infamous mix-up in Game 5.
The Cardinals will be at an advantage when the game finally begins on Thursday because all pitchers will be available out of the bull-pen, including ace Chris Carpenter and the likes of Kyle Lohse and Edwin Jackson. Nevertheless, Garcia hurled seven scoreless
innings in Game 2 of the World Series to keep the Rangers at bay and La Russa wants his starter to replicate the performance again when he takes the mound on Thursday against Rangers’ Colby Lewis.
"If you look at our series, we really have pitched well," La Russa said. "We've had one really good offensive game. So our confidence is very good that he's going to pitch well."
Garcia is yet to win a game in his postseason career and believes that a situation such as this will be a perfect platform for him to prove his mettle. He added that his mentality throughout the season has been to win every start. The Cardinals were 10.5
games behind the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card standings at one point and Garcia played an important role in guiding the Redbirds through to the playoffs.
Recalling his three-hit ball from Game 2, Garcia said, "You don't want to think that because that happened once, that's going to happen again. Every time I go out there, I'm thinking that I want to do good. What I've done in the past against them, you learn
from that, but you move forward."
During the regular season, Garcia started 18 of his 32 starts at Busch Stadium and is thus relatively more accustomed to the conditions as compared to Lewis, whose only start at this venue came ended in a no-result.
