St. Louis Cardinals’ Tony La Russa hopeful despite strong Milwaukee Brewers’ offence – MLB Playoffs
With the ace pitcher Chris Carpenter tasked to take on the Milwaukee Brewers’ offence, St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa hopes the team will make use of the psychological advantage of playing at home.
Scheduled to be played on Wednesday, October 12, Game 3 of the National League Championship Series offers a rare opportunity to the Cardinals to fight off the pressure of playing a strong Brewers team at their home ground.
Brewers have so far won most of their regular and post-season games at their home ground. All in all, a total of 18 games that the two teams played in the regular season, both won nine games each, five of which were at home and four on the road.
However, the Brewers record shows they had taken it to new heights. They did it against the Arizona Diamondbacks in playoffs. The Cardinals displayed their dominance in the last game winning it by 12-3.
Despite that, Tony La Russa thinks it is the confidence that defines the Brewers’ attitude on their home ground. "I think human nature, which includes confidence, and they're very confident in [Miller Park], so it's a factor," La Russa said. “I mean, the
history of our season this year against them, especially the games we got beat, is a crooked number. We lost maybe nine times, at least. Four or five of them, four of them we were sailing along and gave up four or five or six.”
The Cardinals will be looking to put in a good performance and dominate the game early against the surging Brewers. St. Louis is counting on Chris Carpenter to guide the team to a decisive Game 3 victory in the Series.
Nonetheless, as Chris Carpenter will start Wednesday’s game, the pitcher who outdid the Philadelphia Phillies with a 1-0 win in the post-season game, it is high time for the Cardinals to repeat the show at their home ground.
The fans are expecting a much better performance from the Cardinals at home, as the Brewers will be looking to take a victory and shatter the confidence of St. Louis.
