St. Louis Cardinals’ Tony La Russa not forthcoming about reasons for retiring and future plans
Tony La Russa, who on Monday, October 31 announced his retirement as the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, did not clearly specify the reasons for making such an unexpected decision.
Asked if there was any specific reason that could have factored into making such a decision, La Russa chose to avoid directly answering. "There isn't one [factor] that dominates [my decision]," La Russa said.
He also stated that he had informed the team general manager John Mozeliak in August about his decision of retiring. But what remained a puzzling query, whose answer was not available even to the most informed of sport’s journalist, was his making the decision
merely after three days of winning the 2011 World Series Title.
"They all just come together, telling you your time is over. We went through the season, and I felt that this just feels like it's time to end it, and I think it's going to be great for the Cardinals to refresh what's going on here."
As for what his intentions are to do ahead, he once again did not clearly state what was in his mind. "I'm looking forward to what's ahead," La Russa said. "I'm ready to do something different."
With 33-years of experience in his resourceful career, 1,408 victories for the Cardinals in his managerial responsibility in 16 seasons, the former Cardinals’ manager has indeed a lot of options for himself in the future as well.
What precisely he wants to do is, however, a question that he would like to answer with saying that he might buy a Minor League club in the days to come.
No matter what he decides to do as an able and capable guide, it remains a fact that he led the Cardinals at a time when there might not have been any prospect of rising so quickly in 2011 to win the title. The team and the fans will miss this icon of baseball
and his unique style of managing. It will be interesting to see what the Cardinals will do to find a suitable replacement in the coming days, as it will be hard to find someone with so much respect and experience in baseball.
