St. Louis Cardinals’ Tony La Russa relieved after winning Game 6 – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa was excited after winning Game 6 of the World Series against Texas Rangers on Thursday, October 27 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, especially given the fact that it was a must-win game for the Redbirds.
The Cardinals came back at least five times in the game, winning it 10-9 finally in the 11th inning to bring the seven-game Fall Classic level at three-games each. The Cardinals would have had their hands on the World Series title by now, had
La Russa not mixed up a bull-pen decision in Game 5. However, with the Cardinals now back in the series, there is little sense to talk about the infamous incident.
Trailing 5-7 at the bottom of the ninth inning, David Freese drove in a two-out triple to bring the scores level at seven-each and thus push the game into the tenth inning. The Rangers, depicting their craving for a first World Series title, took a two-run
lead in the tenth inning, but to no advantage.
The Cardinals had other plans in mind and not only eradicated the lead, but followed it up with a quick 11th inning to keep the Rangers at bay. It was a ‘Freese show’ thereafter, which saw the Cardinals complete one of the most exuberant comebacks
in the history of baseball.
In his 31 years of managing, La Russa has never had an opportunity of managing a World Series Game 7. However, he asserted pleasure on getting the opportunity and now wants to make full use of the occasion.
Commenting on the performance of the Cardinals, La Russa stated that his team has competed well throughout the postseason and bouncing out in Game 6 would just have not been an appropriate end to what has been a dream year. He continued that the better team
will go on to win the Fall Classic.
La Russa agreed to the fact that this game was not fruitful for either team as long as defence is concerned. It was the offence that kept the game in contention throughout and it will now be vital to see who takes the mound for the home team on Friday, October
28.
