St. Louis Cardinals’ Yadier Molina among Top 5 nominees of NL MVP – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina has won a nomination for the National League Most Valuable Player Award, the result of which will be announced on November 15. He is among the Top 5 nominees awaiting the final announcement of Baseball Writers' Association of America’s NL MVP Award.
While Ryan Braun, Buster Posey, Andrew McCutchen and Chase Headley are among the other nominees, the top favourites are currently Buster Posey and Ryan Braun. Molina, however, stands out as National League’s best defensive catcher with incontestable offensive mastery.
In a year when the Cardinals were eliminated from the National League Championship Series by the San Francisco Giants, Molina swiped 12 bases in 15 attempts.
In his 138 appearances, he did not remain behind in offence either, smashing 22 home-runs and having 76 RBIs to end the season with .315 batting average.
The fact that he played the All-Star Game for the fourth consecutive year in 2012 adds to his impressive credentials along with the Gold Glove Award.
The result will be announced on November 15 with the honours already concluded. It is through point system that the winner will be determined with 32 votes cast by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
With the NL MVP Award, there will be respective awards for Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year and Cy Young.
Climbing up to the ranks of such distinguished players and the enviable nomination for the MVP is in itself quite an achievement for Yadier Molina. Whether he goes on to win it or not is something uncertain given the presence of other strong candidates.
However, Molina has been more of a catalyst for the team both defensively and offensively. Rising as one of the top defensive catchers in the league, Molina will continue to inspire the contemporary players and the baseball fans.
It is on November 15, nonetheless, that the fans will know who actually has won most of the balloted votes for NL MVP. Irrespective of the final outcome, Molina will continue to remain an invaluable asset for the Cardinals given the consistency he has shown over the years.
